Christmas baking is always a favourite for me and it is something that is super fun to do with your kids minus the tonnes of mess everywhere (insert twitching).
Traditionally we do our gingerbread men, but this year I wanted to add to our repertoire with these cute Christmas Tree Brownies. What a great idea!
You can use your favourite brownie recipe below but I have included the one we used as well. Then once baked and cooled you cut them and decorate them and voila! you have an adorable Christmas goodie that you can give out to the teachers or friends and family.
My biggest tip would definitely be to wait until they the brownie is fully cooled down before cutting as it will crumble. We also just picked up some writing icing from Coles but you can easily whip up some royal icing and colour it for decorating.
Christmas Tree Brownies
Ingredients:
190g butter, chopped
290g packet of milk chocolate melts
1 1/3 cups of brown sugar
100ml of sweetned condensed milk
3 eggs, lightly whisked
1 1/2 cups of plain flour
1/4 cup of cocoa sifted
12 candy canes
coloured writing icing
packet of smarties/m & m’s
icing sugar mixture for dusting
Method:
- Preheat oven to 160 C. Grease and line the sides of a 19cm square baking tin with baking paper.
- Place butter, choc melts, brown sugar and condensed milk in a saucepan over a low heat. Cook, stirring for 5 mins or until chocolate melts have melted and micture is smooth. Set aside for 10 mins to cool.
- Add egg, flour and cocoa powder to the butter mixture. Stir until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Pour mixture in to the prepared pan and bake for 30-40 minutes or until just firm to touch. Set aside in pan to cool for atleast 10-15 minutes before placing in the fridge to chill.
- Turn brownie on to a clean work surface and cut in half. Cut each half in to 6 triangles.
- Insert a candy cane in to the base and decorate with writing icing and smarties. Dust with icing sugar.
